W8ODJ Repeater System

SUMCO-ARES operates a distributed voice repeater system on an output frequency of 444.550 MHz.

Input frequency is standard 5 MHz up, at 449.550 MHz, and requires a CTCSS (PL) tone.

A unique aspect of the system is the use of multiple sites. This provides excellent coverage of the county, even for handheld radios. In addition, the redundancy would be an advantage in a disaster if some radio sites were knocked off the air. Currently, two sites are up and operating, with more to be announced shortly. Each site uses a different sub-audible tone to open the squelch (however, the system transmits 131.8). Note that no squelch tails are being used (i.e. no hang time; sounds like simplex).
